Projektbeskrivelse

I have lived for a time in the Caribian Islands of St. Lucia, Antigua, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago, where I developped an interest in colonial style wood architecture and the related fretwork style known as "Gingerbread". I have long wanted to apply the ligthness of this type of wood structure to furniture - a ligthness which, in its ultimate form, is found in the structure og spider´s webs, lace and fans. It is this which I attempt to incorporate in what is an extension of my earlier work with aeroplane veneer. A small, light chair - a preliminary study in preparation for other types of furniture made with the same technique - is on display at the exhibition. The back and seat are made from moulded and perforated aeroplane veneer (ordinary pluwood is too brittle). The frame is made of precompressed ash.
