Thirty years ago today, the Cabinetmakers´ Autumn Exhibition - SE picked up the baton from the Autumn Exhibitions of the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers´ Guild. Some features have been preserved, while others have been renewed. The essential foundation is still in place, however: the cooperation and the open dialogue between designer and manufacturer aimed at creating an innovative piece of furniture without concern for commercial interests. Not that commercial interests are not welcome. They are, but they are not allowed to dominate the development process. Many design classics have emerged from the SE exhibitions, but they are never the point of departure. That premise has been filtered out in the cooperation that has resulted in a unique furniture exhibition every year but one since the beginning in 1981, each exhibition bursting with innovative prototypes for future furniture. Some of the prototypes have gone on to become fully fledged bestsellers, while others will be remembered for their aesthetic value, new technical advances or golden section.

This year, for the first time in many years, The Cabinetmakers´ Autumn Exhibition - SE does not have a fixed exhibition concept. Instead we aim to reflect the full scope of the members´ strengths and diversity under the umbrella of a birthday celebration. Thus, "My 30th birthday" is the thematic framework for this exhibition, where most of the association's members have seized the opportunity to create a piece of furniture as a birthday present for SE. The result is a range of fresh, playful, sustainable, quirky and innovative furniture products. We unwrapped the gifts - and were delighted, surprised, excited and speechless. What a wonderful batch of competent artists, craftspeople, technicians, aesthetes and fully fledged furniture nerds!
