CABINETMAKERS´ AUTUMN EXHIBITION 96

AUNT EMMA

DESIGN: HANS SANDGREN JAKOBSEN  /  MADE BY TEKNOLOGISK INSTITUT, TRÆTEKNIK
Don't pay attention to the legs! The special thing about Emma is her industrially compressed double-curved back support. But being pretty is not enough. A chair must also bo comfortable to sit in. And Emma is just that - for both arms and back. Try her out. She is a product of the Technological Institute's recently developed industrial compressing process, which has opened up new opportunities for the furniture industry: reduced material consumption, less preparation, no glue pot. This new technique has brought out powerful natural qualities in the wood.

Emma is the result of a collaboration between cabinet-maker Søren Risvang and designer Hans Sandgren Jakobsen. The prototypes shown here were produced by the Wood Technology Department of the Technological Institute, Copenhagen.

The project has been supported by Statens Kunstfond (the National Art Fund).
